Wayne Congar

Founder + Partner

Wayne Congar

Wayne is the Creative Director and overall business lead at Mayday, responsible for defining the agency’s creative output and strategic direction. A designer first and foremost, he has designed exhibition spaces for Prada, pushcart stores for Nike, exhibitions on US domestic policy, transportation plans for the nation of Uganda and brand identities for fashion designers and food producers.

Trained initially as an urban planner, and later as an architect, Wayne has worked for some of the top architecture and design offices in the world before founding Mayday; as an architectural designer for the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in Copenhagen and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture/Rem Koolhaas (OMA) in Rotterdam, and a branding consultant for 2×4 and Bruce Mau Design. More recently, he was the Managing Editor in New York for Actar, a prominent art, architecture and design publisher and anindependent brand consultant. Wayne’s work has been exhibited at the Storefront for Art & Architecture, the New Museum, and the Berlage Institute, and has been reviewed in The New York Times, Surface Magazine, Icon Magazine and Volume, among others. He is a regular academic design jurist, sitting on panels at Harvard, Columbia, Yale, UPenn, UCLA, the New School, NYIT and Parsons.

He received a Master of Architecture degree with Honors from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and a BA, summa cum laude, from New York University. Before flights, he buys Popular Science, The Economist, and OK! to read on the plane – every time.

Brendan Bilko

Brendan Bilko

Brendan is the Strategy Director and resident polymath at Mayday, working on everything from UX design and video editing to creative production and account management. He’s responsible for making sure Mayday stays on the rails and brings Bill Simmons’s “VP of Common Sense” theory to the agency setting where one goal remains paramount above all when creating anything — why does it makes sense to the person using it, when they’re using it. He’s passionate about user experience online and in the real-world, has a keen product sense, and focuses on the opportunities that exist at the intersection of creative and strategy.

Prior to Mayday, Brendan worked as a producer at Jed Root, Inc., an agency representing the industry’s top photographers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, and illustrators. In his time there, he produced work for The New York Times, Numéro, Interview, GQ, Vogue, Dazed & Confused, Wonderland, Elle and WSJ, as well as campaigns for Calvin Klein, Target, Cesare Paciotti, Uniqlo, Opening Ceremony, DKNY and Gant. He has also worked as a creative consultant and engagement expert for start-ups and marketing agencies, overseeing everything from audience, to product, to brand development.

Brendan received his Master of Science degree from the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University, where he concentrated in interactive production, product development, audience development and media management, and a BA from New York University. He lives in Brooklyn Heights and unabashedly roots for the New York Metropolitans.

We help our clients make their businesses work better than ever.
